Google recently faced ridiculous problems, the pictures of Abu Ghraib are a problem and actually it seems absurd that people complain about it. It could be not absurd if the information that users are looking for is something different than Abu Ghraib. In addition, Google added images of Google news, so when you search for a specific query ( something that has happened lately of course), you'll get results from it.

If you are interested in knowing when some email arrives to your Gmail account, then this might be handy for you. Google released the "Gmail Notifier", download it and start to know when you get emails in real time!.

As previously mentioned in Google's official blog:

"Today that number nearly doubled to more than 8 billion pages."

This gives us an answer for every possible anomaly of the system, and that includes the GoogleBot rare perfomance and the differences within the search results when a given query is sent. Anyway, this benefits everyone.

Google decided to create a section in order to congratulate Mozilla FireFox for their latest version. The latest version is Mozilla FireFox 1.0 and it's considered the best web browser for navigation. You should switch to FireFox too!

As previously mentioned by Sergey brim Google had plans for POP3 and IMAP support with Gmail. Gmail now supports POP3, but IMAP is not available for now. Anyway, you can look for the instructions for using the POP3 account with any Email program such as Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, among others from here

Every new program or web application as some of you might say. The Google Deskbar (Do not confuse with Google Desktop Search Tool) was released in a BETA phase. However, the application graduated this week, and it is out of beta. You can check what applications are in BETA phase and which of them have graduated lately. Here is the lab's url.

"I can't comment on what the Reuters reporter heard or reported, but I can clear up any confusion by saying now that Google has not announced or decided one way or another on developing Google Desktop for the Mac " A Google Spokesman told the press.

This implies that Reuters heard wrong, and therefore their report was completely wrong. Reuters reported that Google was about to develop the tool for MAC OS X; however, it is proved now that they were wrong.

In addition, Apple Computer is currently developing an internal search engine called Spotlight for MAC OS X in order to search files with the computer locally with multiple features. It is also logical that Google wouldn't be interested in doing the same thing for the MAC because Apple is already developing a search engine that comes internally in the MAC OS X.

A few days ago, we mentioned here about a possible programming bug that blocked the possibility to look every search result for PDF filetypes. However, this problem will no longer exist, if you search now with the operator filetype:PDF, you'll get the results correctly.

The United States election day, which is on November 2 (tomorrow). Google recently published another logo for this event. Who will win? Bush? Kerry?

It's a little strange if you search for example with this query, you are supposed to get 10 out of 4,260,000 search results; however, Google only shows us 4 search results and obviously, this is not correct. There is a possibility that might be programming bug. Hopefully, this "flaw" will be fixed. (This only happens if you search PDF files with the filetype: operator that Google provides to us)

Google chief executive officer Erich Schmidt affirmed that there will be a version of the desktop search tool for the Mac OS X. However, it was not specified how long must Mac users wait for this tool to be available. The application will probably take some time due to the differences between Mac OS X and Windows. In other words, Google will have to rebuilt from the ground up.

There is a XSS vulnerability that allows a hacker to get full access to a gmail account with simply knowing the username, Devguides has learned.

"Using a hex-encoded XSS link, the victim's cookie file can be stolen by a hacker, who can later use it to identify himself to Gmail as the original owner of an email account, regardless of whether or not the password is subsequently changed. Following up a tip from an Israeli hacker, journos from the site confirmed the attack and verified the exploit with local security firm Aladdin Knowledge Systems." Source

Obviously Google was notified about the problem and they are currently solving the issue. It remains unknown if any malicious hacker has exploited the hole.
